Where the Light Gathers

A small raised orange-red disc sits just right of centre in a bright cream glow. Sweeping gold strokes curve into the grey sky, while jagged charcoal-brown ridges frame a patch of light below.

Textured abstract landscape with a small orange-red sun near the centre, surrounded by brilliant cream and gold. Broad ochre arcs sweep across the grey-blue sky above dark, uneven foreground forms. A narrow passage of muted gold extends towards the lower centre.

A small orange-red sun sits just right of centre within a bright opening of ivory, cream and pale yellow. Around this opening, amber and orange spread upwards and towards the right. Broad curved strokes arch across the upper half, their raised lines suggesting a sweeping movement through the sky.

Cool grey, muted violet and slate blue surround the warmer colours, particularly along the left edge and in the upper corners. Below the light, dark brown and charcoal forms stretch across the painting. A sloping mass rises on the left, while a smaller, pointed form stands to the right of the bright centre.

Between these dark shapes, a broken passage of grey and muted gold leads towards the lower edge, suggesting reflected light or an opening through the foreground. Thick folds, curved grooves and closely spaced ridges give the surface a restless texture. The strongest contrast lies where the pale central light meets the dark land-like forms.

The dark ground opens, and light gathers in the space between. A small ember of sun holds within a widening glow, while great arcs of gold sweep overhead. Below, a faint warmth travels towards us through the shadows. For a moment, the distance feels close enough to enter—as though the landscape has opened a passage into light.
