Textured abstract landscape with a low orange sun left of centre beneath a broad, curved field of cream and gold. Blue-grey and rust forms surround the light. Dark navy fills the lower right, beside broken yellow, white and orange marks suggesting reflections.
A large, luminous sweep of ivory, cream and yellow occupies the left and centre of the painting. Its outer edge curves down from the upper left, curling towards a small orange sun positioned left of centre in the lower half. A thin band of pale gold passes beneath the sun and rises diagonally towards the right.
Above this band, yellow deepens into amber and rust. Elongated grey-brown strokes cross the upper middle, while a tall, irregular mass of charcoal and burnt orange borders the light on the centre-right. Beyond it, a cooler opening of pale blue reaches towards the upper-right corner.
The foreground is darkest on the right, where deep navy and charcoal form a broad sloping mass. Below the sun, broken horizontal strokes of white, yellow and orange descend towards the lower centre, suggesting light scattered across water. Muted rose and blue-grey occupy the lower left. Raised lines and scraped textures follow the sweeping curves, giving the light a sense of motion.
The sun rests low while the light turns around it. Cream and gold sweep through the sky in a wide curve, brushing the dark edges of the landscape. Below, fragments of brightness tremble towards the foreground. It feels like the last moment before a change: the world still warm, its shadows deepening, and the light carrying us around a bend we cannot quite see.
