Textured abstract landscape with deep blue shadows on the left and a broad sweep of yellow-gold across the centre. An orange sun glows within a pale cream and blue opening on the right. A dark ridge crosses the lower third, with broken gold beneath it.
Deep blue fills much of the left side, ranging from slate and cobalt to dark navy. Grey-brown forms spread across the upper centre. Beneath them, a broad band of brilliant yellow and amber sweeps towards a luminous opening on the right.
Within this opening, a small orange sun sits slightly above the middle of the painting. Pale cream, icy blue and faint pink surround it, forming an irregular oval of light. Curving grey and ochre strokes frame its upper and right edges. A separate, smaller streak of cream and peach interrupts the blue in the upper-left quarter.
An uneven dark blue-grey ridge extends across the lower third, rising gently near the centre before dipping beneath the sun. Below it, the foreground alternates between blue shadow and broken patches of ochre, olive and gold. Thick ridges, scraped passages and overlapping marks carry movement throughout the surface, linking the darker areas with the bright sweep above.
The storm has passed, but its blue still lies across the land. Through the parting clouds, gold spreads into the open air, gathering around a small, fierce sun. Below, the ground catches scattered warmth. Everything seems newly exposed: the depth of the shadows, the roughness of the earth, and the startling brightness of light returning.
