A Different Light: A Multisensory Exploration of X-Ray Crystallography

Experience Science Differently with A Different Light: A Multisensory Exploration of X-Ray Crystallography
Presented by Monash Sensory Science in collaboration with Swinburne University of Technology, School of Design
Part of National Science Week 2025

Monash Sensory Science, in collaboration with Swinburne University of Technology’s School of Design, presents A Different Light: A Multisensory Exploration of X-Ray Crystallography—a free multi-city exhibition of interactive science books and tactile displays designed for Blind, Low Vision, and Diverse Needs audiences, their families, carers, friends, and the wider public.

The exhibition features a series of multisensory books and artworks inspired by the science of X-ray crystallography. Incorporating braille, audio, and tactile elements, the works explore how scientific ideas can be experienced beyond sight, through touch and sound. The event is open to all and no booking is required.

The project celebrates Australia’s foundational contribution to X-ray crystallography, led by Nobel Prize–winning scientists Sir William and Lawrence Bragg, and is part of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology—highlighting the importance of quantum discovery and its impact on how we understand the world around us.
